This course explores how our behaviour is shaped by our biology, from the genes we inherit to the structure and chemistry of our brains. You will examine why some individuals are more prone to aggression, how drugs affect synaptic transmission and the extent to which behaviour is determined by nature rather than nurture. Through classic and contemporary studies, you'll learn how biological influences affect antisocial behaviour. You'll also develop key research methods skills including brain scans, twin and adoption studies and correlational research and explore the contemporary key question: 'What are the implications upon society if aggression is due to nature or not nurture?' Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to practice short and long exam questions with AI feedback and model answers, as well as practice quizzes on every sub-topic. The central nervous system (CNS) and neurotransmitters in human behaviour, including the structure and role of the neuron, the function of neurotransmitters and synaptic transmission.
